DANIEL L. RICE

Dan grew up in a hospitality services environment and today is surrounded by friends and family in the industry.

By the age of sixteen, Dan was working the front desk of his family’s 300-year-old Vermont country inn, the Green Mountain House. The inn catered to ski groups primarily from the North Shore of Long Island and Fairfield County, Connecticut. At eighteen, Dan was managing all aspects of this property, including reservations, food and beverage, housekeeping, guest services.

Graduating from St. Johns University, College of Business Administration. with a B.S. in Finance, Dan also studied journalism at the Royal Holloway - University of London. He later worked for the McGraw-Hill Information Services Companies in New York, where he started off as a Financial Analyst and was then promoted to New Product Development. While working as a New Product Analyst Dan took on more responsibility for the development and launch of new products being brought to market. After working for McGraw-Hill clients in London and Athens, Dan returned to the United States to apply his extensive business development and planning skills to the hospitality services industry.

To further expand his abilities in the hospitality industry, Dan attended the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, where he studied food and wine pairing with Holly Mondavi, he completed a course of study in wine with Kevin Zraly at the International Wine School at Windows on the World in New York. And learned various cooking techniques while attending the Agriturismo Seliano, Campania Italy. More recently, Dan attended the International Wine Academy of Rome, Italy.

Dan is highly visible in the hospitality industry. For the past eight years, he has worked in event sales and planning based in Roslyn Harbor, NY and Greenwich, Connecticut.

In addition to having planned literally hundreds of successful events, Dan has also served as Auction Chairman at the nonprofit organization Making Headway, which provides support to children with brain tumors and their families. Based in Chappaqua, N.Y. In this capacity, he helped to raise over $1,000,000. through organizing such community events as the “Tulip Festival Dinner Dance and Auction.”

As much a dynamic entrepreneur as an enthusiastic business development professional, Dan has long wanted to find a way to apply his insights about business development to the hospitality services industry. To realize these goals, in 1999 he started his own company, Daniel L. Rice Consulting Inc.

Based on the North Shore of Long Island and Greenwich, CT., Dan is a well-respected consultant. Avaliable to wineries, restaurants, hotels, resorts, catering companies, cooking schools, and health spas. Dan has created individualized food and wine programs, educational seminars, and distinctive menus and wine lists for clients around the world.
